FAQ’s
WHAT IS MICROBLADING?
Microblading, a form of semi-permanent makeup, is the process of implanting color pigment beneath the surface of the skin through the use of a small, sterile, disposable needle. This process can help you to achieve the appearance of full, natural brows thereby enhancing the features of the face
HOW LONG DOES MICROBLADING LAST?
Microblading is classified as semi-permanent. The microblading will not wash off, but it will fade over time due to its semi-permanent nature. Due to this, touch-ups may be required every 1-2 years. The frequency of touch-ups necessary can depend on a number of factors including but not limited to:
The color of pigment used - lighter colors fade faster.
Your personal lifestyle - how much time you spend in the sun.
If your body is deficient in iron it may resorb the pigment which contains iron-oxide.
Pigment exposure to chemical peel treatments.
Please note that your final results can not be guaranteed. Each skin type is unique therefore it will retain pigments differently as well as degrade at different rates. For example, when healed the hair strokes tend to appear crisper on dry skin types, with oily skin types appearing more powdery. Evaluation will be made at your touch-up and any changes necessary will be made.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NEEDED?
Most clients require a minimum of two treatments at least 6 weeks apart. Occasionally one treatment may be enough but a touch-up treatment is available for a low rate if you feel it necessary. With the healing process, the color will look dramatically lighter after the first week. While some may prefer this look, others may feel the need to go bolder. This can be accommodated in the second session where I will assess your pigment retention and make the necessary adjustments. Everyone heals differently. If your brows do not heal perfectly after your first session we can add more density at your next session.
DOES MICROBLADING HURT?
A highly effective, topical anesthetic cream and gel are used for numbing before and during your procedure. Pain threshold levels vary from person to person and every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable for the entirety of the procedure. Having this service performed during your menstrual cycle may increase discomfort during your procedure. If you are a frequent smoker, the topical anesthetics used during the treatment will not last as long. If you have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, be aware that this may affect your sensitivity tolerance to the procedure.
HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY APPOINTMENT?
Please have any brow work (tinting, shaping, etc) done at least 3 days before your appointment. You may show up to the appointment with your brows filled in as you normally wear them so that I may get an idea of your desired look. Photos of brows that you find appealing are also welcomed so that we may design your dream brows, while keeping in mind your particular face shape and features.
If you wish, you may let your eyebrows grow out before your appointment so that I may use as much hair as possible when creating your shape. After your new brows are mapped out, I can remove the remaining stray hairs if you wish.
Do not consume alcohol within 24 hours of your appointment.
Avoid any and all blood thinners 24 hours prior to your appointment.
Keep in mind that the total healing process takes approximately 14 days and plan accordingly. No swimming, sun exposure, exercising (sweating) for the full 14 days after the procedure.
Avoid tanning for 2 weeks prior to your appointment.Do not show up to your appointment with a sunburn, or fresh tan. If you have either of these you must contact me 48 hours in advance to reschedule your appointment or you will forfeit your deposit.
Avoid chemical peels at least 1 month prior to your appointment.
DO YOU WORK ON PREVIOUSLY TATTOOED EYEBROWS?
I do not work on previously tattooed/microbladed eyebrows unless approved prior to booking.
WHO IS INELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE MICROBLADING?
If any of the following applies to you, unfortunately, you will not be a candidate for this treatment: If you are pregnant or nursing, under 18 years old, if you have HIV/Hepatitis, skin conditions such as psoriasis or eczema around the brow area, if you have been taking medications such as corticosteroids or Accutane, have a tendency to keloid, or blood clotting disorders such as hemophilia.
IMMEDIATELY AFTER:
Immediately following the procedure, the tattooed area will appear darker, bolder in color and more sharply defined. This will last for 2-3 days after your first appointment.
Swelling and redness is minimal with most clients, and will disappear within 24-48 hours. In some cases, this may last around 72 hours, but will not prevent working or socializing.
There should only be minimal discomfort after the procedure, which may feel similar to a sunburn.
You may shower and bathe normally, but avoid the use of any soaps or cleansers on the treated area for the first 7 days as they can be detrimental to the bonding process that must take place for the pigment to stabilize in the dermis.
Wash your hands thoroughly before touching the treated area.
Keep the tattooed area clean by rinsing with lukewarm water and patting dry with a clean, disposable paper towel 3 times daily.
Avoid any kind of moisturizer, oil, and vaseline for the first 2 weeks. Only apply a very small amount of the provided cream once daily in the morning after cleansing the eyebrows with warm water. Apply the cream with a disposable cotton swab. The goal in this process is to have your tattoo flake off naturally, rather than from into large scabs. You may use the provided cream for the first 7-14 days.
Do not pick or scratch your healing tattoo. You must let the skin/flakes fall off naturally. Picking the tattoo can cause scarring or loss of pigment. IMPORTANT: Once all of the flakes of skin have fallen off, a shiny layer of freshly healed skin will completely cover your hair strokes. This will make it appear as if your tattooed eyebrows are gone. The hair strokes will reappear within 1-2 weeks, at a lighter shade as your skin regenerates
Do not apply make-up to the tattooed area for the first two weeks. Chemicals of any kind may interfere with the healing and color of your tattoo.
Once the treated area is completely healed, any changes or additions needed can be made at your follow-up appointment.
During the healing process, your tattoo will soften and lighten. This process takes about 6-8 weeks, at which time the true color of the tattoo will be evident. Be patient even if you think too much color has been lost, as your skin is still regenerating and exfoliating. At least 6 weeks are needed to see the true healed color, as it seems to take on a new strength, and it is only after 6 weeks that your touch-up/adjustments can be made. Please keep in mind that microbladed brows heal up to 30% softer than the initial color.
